Congratulations to the Isaac Agree Downtown Synagogue for hosting the successful “Grooming on Griswold” on December 19. This was the second time the function had been held since 2014. Complementary haircuts and other grooming services were provided to dozens, including seniors, veterans, and those who are economically disadvantaged.
Thank you to the following facilitators and sponsors who made the program happen: Urban Bean Company, Social Club Grooming Company, the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Detroit, Our Lady of the Rosary Roman Catholic Church, St. Aloysius Downtown Catholic Church, and Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church. I edited a “Grooming on Griswold” event release - click here to read - and it helped generate exposure in various media in Metro Detroit, including the Detroit Free Press and Daily Detroit. To learn more about the Downtown Synagogue and to keep up to date on its many programs and activities, go to the congregation's website - downtownsynagogue.org - or visit its Facebook page: facebook.com/downtownsynagogue.

Be sure to take part in the Sixth Annual Menorah in the D! Metro Detroit’s largest community-wide menorah lighting will be held Tuesday, December 27 from 3 p.m. - 8 p.m. at Campus Martius Park in Detroit. Those of all faiths and backgrounds are encouraged to come out and enjoy live entertainment, food, games, crafts, and other family-friendly fun. Menorah in the D is hosted by The Shul, in partnership with Jewish Federation’s NEXTGen Detroit, Chabad of Greater Downtown Detroit, and the support of the Quicken Loans family and other corporate sponsors.
I’m proud to be a “MaccaDee,” one of the dozens of folks who assist with the happening. I’ll be coordinating traffic and parking arrangements for the second time, and I’ve enjoyed watching the event grow year by year. If you'd like to help, sign up at the volunteer section of the event site: menorahinthed.com/volunteer/
I hope to see you there! "Menorah in the D" is a special occasion and one that you'll be glad you attended! Downtown Synagogue offers free grooming services to Detroit’s seniors, veterans & disadvantaged12/5/2016
In addition to the Downtown Synagogue, the following facilitators and sponsors will make this function possible: Urban Bean Company, Social Club Grooming Company, the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Detroit, Our Lady of the Rosary Roman Catholic Church,
St. Aloysius Downtown Catholic Church, and Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church. “Grooming on Griswold” coordinators have reached out to various shelters, clinics, soup kitchens, and houses of worship to spread the word about the opportunity for a haircut free of charge. Please forward program details to those who would benefit from this aid. I'm a member of the synagogue, I serve on its Creative Communications Committee, and I edited the media release above. I anticipate the document will help generate publicity for the event in various media in Southeast Michigan, and I’ll post exposure as it becomes available. |
